Tomatin Distillery

A Unique Land and a Century of Craft

Founded in 1897 in the Highlands, just a few kilometres from Inverness, the Tomatin Distillery stands in the heart of a wild landscape where nature shapes every stage of the process. The pure, low-mineral water from the Alt-na-Frith spring lends the whiskies their hallmark softness.

A pioneer in many respects, Tomatin is distinguished by its 168-hour fermentation—the longest in Scotland— and its slow distillation in stills designed to produce refined, elegant spirits. It is also among the rare Scottish distilleries to operate its own cooperage, ensuring expert control over cask selection, maintenance, and reconditioning.

A true distillery village, Tomatin is home to a close-knit community, with 80% of its employees living on site and carrying forward a living tradition of craftsmanship. Since 2013, the distillery has pursued an ambitious sustainability programme, cutting its carbon emissions by 80% through the use of a biomass boiler and repurposing by-products via a biogas unit. These initiatives were recognised with the title of “Sustainable Distillery of the Year” at the Icons of Whisky Awards 2023.
