Nestled in a region of exceptional richness, the Tweed Valley, where around half a million tonnes of cane are harvested each year, Husk Distillery embodies a true Farm to Bottle philosophy, forging a close connection with its natural surroundings.Set on a 60 hectare farm, Husk minimizes its environmental footprint through a sustainable approach, ensuring the continuous production of high quality cane while preserving 12 hectares of primary rainforest, home to numerous endemic species.
PRODUCTION ROOTED IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE APPROACH
The distillery produces two styles of rum: one made from pure cane juice sourced from its own fields, and the other from cane syrup purchased locally from the Condong sugar mill, located just five minutes from the distillery. It follows an environmentally responsible approach, refusing to burn the cane before harvest, thereby preserving its natural properties. In addition, the unburnt leaves that fall to the ground during cutting help nourish the soil and limit weed growth, reducing the need for herbicides.

The cane is crushed directly on site using a Brazilian mill specifically designed for the production of pure cane juice rum. The fresh juice is then fermented in stainless steel tanks, while the bagasse is repurposed for various agricultural uses. Distillation takes place in a unique Forsyth hybrid still, the only one of its kind in Australia, allowing for flexible batch distillation tailored to production needs. The distillation residues are recycled as feed for the farm’s livestock. In addition to its sustainable farming practices, Husk implements various initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint, including rainwater harvesting and the use of solar panels. Its commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the choice of recyclable materials for its packaging.
